What does this strange title mean? Is there an ultimate grounding of the universe,
something upon which everything else is based, a ‘telos’ or end or goal or reason for the existence of all that is? Or does any basis for the universe simply remain shrouded forever in ambiguity, as the ancient Greeks said:

 

“What does the earth sit on?”
“A big turtle.”
“What does the turtle sit on?”
“Another big turtle.”
“What does that turtle sit on?”
“It’s turtles all the way down.”
