If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a member, fill out a membership interest form or call our office. Once you’ve submitted your form, our director will contact you to talk about your interest to become a member. A conversation with our director allows us to get to know you better, and it also gives you the opportunity to ask questions and understand how Newton at Home can serve your needs.

Who can join Newton at Home?

Any resident 60+ from Newton can apply to be a member of Newton at Home. Please see the member application here Membership Application

How many members does Newton at Home have?

We currently have about 160 members and are looking to grow. If you are interested in becoming a member, the first step is to fill out a membership interest form Membership Inquiry

Who are the volunteers of Newton at Home?

Newton at Home volunteers is an intergenerational group of kind-hearted, civic minded individuals from our community that includes local high school students, working professionals, and retirees. Volunteers are the backbone of Newton at Home. Can you commit to a few hours once or twice a month?

We currently have 80 active volunteers and are always looking for more folks who are interested in our direct and indirect service opportunities.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone! We are enthusiastic about having volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. You can volunteer as an individual, as a family, or as a group, on your own time and in your own neighborhood. Volunteer Application Form

Are volunteers vetted? Do volunteers have their background checked?

Yes! We do a CORI background check with the US Department of Justice on all volunteers.

And all volunteer drivers must have a valid drivers' license and require proof of insurance.

I want to become a member and also volunteer, can I do that?

Yes! We welcome all our members to volunteer and we welcome any volunteers to become members. Reciprocity and mutual support are bedrock principles of Newton at Home.

How is Newton at Home financed?

NaH sustains less than a third of its operating budget with membership fees. The remainder of our operating budget is covered by donations from members, volunteers, friends, local businesses, and a few private foundations. We receive some state funding each fiscal year and we do not take referral fees from our vetted service providers.

Does Newton at Home have a program for those on limited incomes?

Yes! Our Reduced-Fee Membership Plan (RFMP) is for people 60 or older who meet the low to moderate income guidelines explained here: Membership Fees This program is limited by the donations received to support its cost. We are passionate about growing its enrollment and building revenue streams to support it. Please reach out to us if you have any questions about the RFMP.

When is the Newton at Home office open?

The office is open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on weekdays, except for holidays. We’re closed on the weekends and all major holidays.

What else should I know about Newton at Home?

In an emergency, your first call should always be 911. NaH is happy to assist, as it is able, with other important matters as they arise. We ask members to call at least 5 business days in advance for rides from volunteers and give priority to requests to and from medical appointments. What exactly is a village?

Villages are consumer-driven, grass-roots organizations that, through both volunteers and paid staff, coordinate access to services including transportation, health and wellness programs, home repairs, social and educational activities, and other day-to-day needs enabling individuals to remain connected to their community throughout the aging process. Together we have the power and means to design our own futures and keep better control of our own lives.

How many Villages exist?

Today there are over 300 Villages operating in the nation and many more in development. There are approximately 30 Villages in Massachusetts.
