Newton at Home is a member-led, volunteer-driven nonprofit whose mission is to enable older Newton residents to age-in-place with independence and dignity through community support. Our organization is built by and for older adults of all backgrounds, lived experiences, and economic means; and we strive to bolster community health across Newton, promote intergenerational ties, support at-risk residents, and ease access to healthcare.
Membership provides individuals with a one-stop shop where they can utilize transportation and in-home services that help them meet their basic needs, attend a variety of programs that promote lifelong learning and cognitive health, and reduce social isolation while making new friends.
We strive to meet the growing needs of Newton’s 60+ population by creating a strong, inclusive community in which neighbors help neighbors so that older adults may enjoy a rich and independent quality of life as they age.
NaH (Newton at Home) membership also benefits the families of members who gain peace of mind knowing that their loved ones have access to an enormous support network. And NaH plays an important role in the larger community, too, offering both young and old a meaningful opportunity to become involved in community service.
Newton at Home HistoryWe were founded by a group of longtime Newton residents and welcomed our first members in April 2011. Since then, our volunteers have fulfilled approximately 35,000 service requests for nearly 500 older Newton residents.
Newton at Home Today
NaH is just one of more than 325 Villages that have sprung up all over the country in what is called The Village Movement. Modeled after small towns of the past where neighbor helped neighbor and social networks were tight, today's Villages have proved highly successful in helping folks live in with dignity and independence wherever they call home. We also ascribe to the Village Model, created at nearby Beacon Hill Village — the first-ever Village and sister Village to Newton at Home – which emphasizes social capital, the individual strengths of our members, and the power of peer-to-peer engagement to better navigate life transitions and together imagine and build a brighter future.
